Outdoor Pursuits

Overview of KS4: Outdoor Pursuits

Students who select Outdoor Pursuits as an option will take part in a variety of activities across the key stage. These activities will include kayaking, canoeing, sailing, problem solving, climbing archery and caving. Students will also take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Activities will be introduced in Y10 and students will learn the basic skills. In Y11 the activities will be revisited and the student’s skills will be developed in more challenging environments. E.g. within kayaking skills will be learned and practised at Ulley Activity Centre in Y10, in Y11 these skills will be developed and the students will progress on to moving water on the River Don.

Some of the activities covered can count towards the student’s GCSE PE grade, and in many cases represent their highest marks. Students can also gather evidence towards the ASDAN CoPE qualification.
