DofE Autumn Expeditions
During September and October, our Y9 and Y11 Duke of Edinburgh Students have completed their practice expeditions and qualifying expeditions for the bronze award. These each lasted 2 days and involved the students carrying all the equipment they needed, camping overnight and cooking their own meals.
The practice expeditions were an opportunity for them to try out the skills they had been learning in school e.g. map-reading and route planning, equipment selection and rucksack packing, putting up and taking down tents, food selection and cooking on stoves. They then had 2 weeks to reflect on how things had gone and make any changes or improve their skills ready for the qualifying expedition.
The qualifying expeditions took place in different locations, Hesley Wood at Chapeltown, Silverwood at Silkstone and Barn Farm in the Peak District. On each occasion, there were challenging weather conditions but the students all passed with flying colours. They have all produced entertaining video diaries of their experiences and should all be proud of their achievement. Well done to all involved.
