Emerging SGO of the Year Award
Lucy Davenport was selected as one of the finalists for the Emerging School Games Award.
Starting the role on the day of last year’s School Games Summit, Lucy works in Rotherham as a three day a week SGO, with her other two days as a School Sports Co-ordinator for several clusters of schools. Lucy settled into the role of an SGO quickly within South Yorkshire and has got to grips with what the role means to her, her host school and the 67 schools within her SGO area.
Lucy’s passion was shown immediately as she ensured she went out and got to meet with PE coordinators in most of her schools to understand the landscape of PE and sport in the area, developing the offer further and putting her own stamp on things. Lucy has engaged 43 schools across her area in two or more School Games Competitions and has had over 35 schools attending the 60 Active Minutes Local Engagement Event with 36 schools actively registered and using this tool.
Lucy is an advocate of PE and sport and has worked alongside the School Improvement Service in Rotherham to embed School Games across the area. This has seen events such as the Rotherham PE Awards being heavily focussed around School Games outcomes and CPD for teachers linking directly to School Games Principles of Competition.
