RCS Football Tour 2019

Over the Easter holidays, 42 students form Rawmarsh Community School went on the school football tour to Real Madrid in Spain.

Students got the chance to visit Madrid City centre taking in the historical culture of the city with its many monuments and the Royal Palace. The also had an exhilarating day of rides and attractions at the Parque Warner theme park where they rode on the Batman and Superman rollercoasters and those who dared to had the chance to ride the tallest vertical drop ride in Europe.

Students also visited The Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, Spain which has a current seating capacity of 81,044. Students toured the stands, the changing rooms and the executive seating, whilst also getting the chance to be pitch side where some of the greats in world football have played. The opportunity to have expert coaching and training with Real Madrid coaches was another first-class experience for the students that took place at the Real Madrid Academy complex at Valdebebas. Coaches worked on quick passing and moving, controlling the ball and possession games. They also had the chance to apply their skills in small sided games.

Finally, the students of Rawmarsh went on to play against Spanish opposition in their games whilst on tour. The U12 made a great comeback after being 2-0 down to make the game 4-4 in the last minute with goals coming from Charlie Jeffery (2) Ellis Hazlett and Oliver Leicester. A very spirited performance, the lads showed great character with Ben frost being the man of the match with his limitless energy and running.

The U13s team ran out convincing winners beating their opposition 1-6 with a great man of the match performance from Ben Ransford who scored three goals and others from Connor Toyne, Junaid Raza and Daniel Chambers. The U14s had a tough game up against a good Spanish team and had to really fight for their result.

The end score was 2-2 with goals coming from James Hickling and Conor Smith who claimed the man of the match award. All teams returned to the UK unbeaten and showed their skills, fitness and togetherness throughout. Team managers Mr Baker (U14s), Mr Bartle & Miss Davenport (U12s), Mr Orr (U13s) are immensely proud of all the players and their efforts and performance.
