Social Studies Court
On Thursday 30th January, Miss Forshaw decided to challenge her year 7 social studies class to take part in a mock court trial.
We’ve been looking at crime as part of our social studies curriculum this half term. The students were given the roles of judge, jury, defendant, prosecution team, defence team, witnesses, usher and clerk. We examined the fictional case of Kerry Hicks, who had been accused of causing criminal damage (graffiti) at the train station.
The students really thought about the roles they were playing and rose to the challenge superbly. There’s clearly some future lawyers in the class based on their cross-examination of the defendant and witnesses! In the end, the defence team were victorious, as the jury found the defendant not guilty!
