WPT Secondary Schools Celebrate European Languages Week

In the last week in the MFL Departments across Wickersley Partnership Trust, we have been celebrating European Languages Week.

This half term has been a very busy one for our MFL students.

September saw the European Day of Languages on the 27th and with that brought a week’s worth of celebrations for our students at RCS.

The aim of the week was to highlight to students how culturally diverse the world we live in is and to spotlight the importance of learning a foreign language.

There has been a number of activities going on around our schools, which have celebrated cultural diversity and enrichment.

Each day, teachers around our schools have organised activities where students can develop their language skills and broaden their cultural horizons. Our WPT students have enjoyed French, Spanish, German and Italian food tasting, beginner German and Italian lessons, MFL karaoke, Mexican Day of the Dead crafts and an MFL inspired bake off… just to name a few events.

Year 9s were even lucky enough to enjoy an inhouse cinema experience watching the Oscar nominated French film Les Choiristes, which linked to their topic of school that they have been studying since they returned after the summer.

In form tutor time, students even completed an escape room in which they learnt about the importance of languages as well as learn some key language skills. This gave students an opportunity to gain a pledge by learning a greeting in five different languages throughout the week.

The MFL Department was astounded by the level of engagement by the level of engagement by students of all age groups. Students baked and decorated their goods with European flags, but the most impressive creations were from students who researched a cake, dessert or dish from another European country and then made them at home. Students then brought their creations into school where we raised money for charity.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all students who took part. Well done, RCS – we are so proud of your achievements.

Here are just a few photos from the events that have taken place.
