Y7 Netball Tournament Triumph
Our Y7 netball team were crowned the Rotherham School winners on Saturday. They progressed through the tournament 2 weeks ago finishing in 2nd place in their pool overall. The top four teams then progress onto the finals day which is held at Wickersley.
We played Wales in our semifinal match who won their group. it was a close game with only 2 goals between the teams all the way through the match. Amelia Longdon was outstanding as Centre, she was up and down the court faster than you could blink and the opposition struggled to keep up with her. We came on top beating Wales 10 – 8 with some magnificent shooting from Miya Marshall and Hannah Surtees.
We then had a nervy wait to see who we were going to play in the final. Wickesley beat Wingfield and our final was set!
It was always going to be a close competition as we met them at the tournament the week before and lost by one goal. We started slowly and after the first quarter, we were 3 goals behind. A few tactical changes were made and during the 2nd and 3rd quarter we dominated finishing 8-8 with one quarter to go. The girls were amazing as too were the crowd cheering the girls on.
A special mention to the Y11 team who had also made it to finals day stayed to support the girls! Wickersley had the centre and scored straight away putting us one goal behind, however, the girls kept it together and scored 2 straight back which meant we were now leading. From this point, Rawmarsh were in control and passed the ball well. Teigan Green and Abi Adgeboye were amazing in defence and made it almost impossible for their shooters to get the ball. Two goals from Miya Marshall secured out victory 12 goals to 10.
The whole team were truly outstanding and did the school proud! Well done to all the Y7 netball girls for a brilliant season.
