Y9 Hockey Umpiring

Hockey

Last term twenty-six Year 9 sports leaders woke up extra earlier to attend two hockey umpire-training sessions, which took place before school in preparation for the up and coming primary competitions.

During the training sessions, the leaders worked hard to understand the rules and then applied what they had learnt by umpiring small-sided matches.

On Monday 25th October and Tuesday 12th November the sports leaders umpired the Rotherham Hockey Competition at Rotherham Hockey Club Aurora. The competition was attended by 250 primary school children from 26 schools. The Rawmarsh Sports Leaders managed and umpired over thirty hockey matches and showed confidence, discipline and sportsmanship.

The leaders also created personal best challenges for the competitors such as a penalty shoot-out and a timed slalom course.

They did an amazing job and showed great commitment and resilience!
