Year 11 in Cup Triumph

Our Year 11 football team were victorious this week in their First Round Rotherham Cup tie at home to Swinton.

The match was played in some pretty horrible rainy conditions and the performance from the boys showed an enormous amount of effort, courage and heart to overcome not only the weather but also a stubborn Swinton team.

The game finished 2-2 after full-time thanks to goals from Sam Hill and a late well-taken penalty from Ben Hopkinson. At the full-time whistle the boys could count themselves unlucky not to win in normal time after hitting both the post and crossbar in the final few minutes!

Unfortunately, the game could not be won in extra-time as the pressure continued to be piled on Swinton but the boys were victorious on penalties winning 3-1 with penalties being scored by Bailey Adams, Ben Hopkinson and Sam Hickman. Two penalty saves in the shootout from Josh Havenhand saw the team home and through to the next round!

Well played lads!
