Year 8 Options – PSHE Key Takeaways!
Year 8s are well under way with their options process, which will see them picking their two faculty choices for next year. Over the last fortnight, the students have been using their PSHE lessons to learn about a range of careers, job families and potential routes.
There has been good attendance over the last couple of weeks with over 84% of students attending their live PSHE lessons, and even more students completing tasks outside of lesson time. Feedback from the PSHE department and Miss Mullins has been extremely positive – all reporting how great the students’ engagement and efforts were in the lessons and discussions.
The feedback from the year 8s has also been positive, especially on National Apprenticeship Week, with some clear takeaways from the lessons. These include:
“They helped me to think about the options and how to make an informed decision.”
“We learned about the different types of careers that we can consider.”
“I enjoyed getting involved in online lessons and discussing different real aspects of life.”
“We learned about different paths we can take to help us with what we want to do.”
“I like how they explained about apprenticeships and the different job areas that you can work and train for.”
For anyone who missed the lessons, or would like to go back through them, all resources can be found on PSHE Google Classroom. If anyone is also interested in finding out more information about careers, they can speak to their PSHE teachers or Miss Mullins who is our careers advisor.
We will be hosting a virtual options evening after half term on Wednesday 24th February for parents and students. There will be a presentation delivered by Mr Turton and then there will be a chance to break out into separate talks with faculty leaders to get more information about particular subjects.
