As a learning community with the needs of our children very much at its centre, we aim to ensure all students at Rawmarsh Community School enjoy the journey from primary to secondary education.

We aim to ensure all students enjoy and benefit from a smooth transition where they can flourish – both personally and academically. Our main aim is to make pupils feel part of the RCS community long before they begin their Y7. To achieve this, we offer a series of transition evenings as well as our ‘rollover’ programme which are explained below…

1. An Introduction to RCS – an evening that gives parents, carers and students the opportunity to hear from the Senior Leadership Team and meet the staff who are involved in the day to day transition process. Shortly after this event, we also offer a series dates where you may attend a tour of the school.

2. Taster Sessions – at this follow-up evening we invite parents, carers and students to participating in a rolling programme of engaging lessons in English, Maths and Creative Arts. We aim to provide all parents, carers and students with an insight into the daily diet of Y7 students at RCS – as well as an opportunity to meet some of the teachers.

3. Meet The Tutor – our final transition event allows students to meet their form tutor and find out all about the structure of the school day. We will also share information about the uniform, our rewards system and expectations of behaviour.

4. Rollover Day –  we want to make the change from primary school to RCS as positive an experience as we can. This is why, in addition to the Y6 Transition Evenings, all students complete a four-week transition programme that runs from June until the end of the summer term. During this time, students will become familiar with the school’s way of working, expectations and layout. They will experience the new school day first hand, and start to build relationships with peers and staff alike.-  we want to make the change from primary school to RCS as positive an experience as we can. Throughout the year, our Transition team work tirelessly within all of our feeder schools to build relationships and collect information for bespoke student profiles. These are extremely valuable to all of our teachers and support staff at RCS to help us meet the needs of all pupils.
