Two Cup wins for Y8

The Y8 football team got their season off to a great start with a well-deserved victory over Trinity in the English School Cup.

A tentative first 10 minutes saw both teams pushing to score. However, Rawmarsh started to come out on top having several chances to take the lead. Trinity then unexpectedly took the lead with a goal from a corner that went in off the attacker’s back. Not to be deterred, Rawmarsh rallied and started to play good football, and before half time started to show their superiority and the goals started to flow. Joshua Greaves had an excellent game leading the front line brilliantly and they ended up with 4 goals, Xander Gunn working hard in the middle scored two and Finley Smith & Raphael Morina both scored one.

Although Trinity tried to get back into the game the result was always going in favour of Rawmarsh with the final score being 8-4.

In the second round of the competition, Rawmarsh faced Doncaster school Campsmount. After a great start to the game with Rawmarsh going up 3-0 with goals from Josh Greaves (2) and Andrew Underwood. Campsmount got back into the game and made it 3-3 on the stroke of half-time. With Rawmarsh still playing well Campsmount scored the 4th goal against the run of play and were looking to see the game out; Rawmarsh thought otherwise and with some sustained pressure on the Campsmount goal, Josh Greaves headed home his third goal of the game to make it 4-4. With time running out and the game looking to go into extra time, Andrew Underwood stepped up to Volley home a wonderful strike from the edge of the box to seal the 5-4 win. An excellent victory for the year 8 boys.

A great start, well done.
