Our Year 11 football team were victorious in the Rotherham cup this week beating Aston on penalties in an evenly contested final.
Aston took an early lead in the game after Rawmarsh had spurned several chances. Both teams battled well, however Aston went into the half time break 1 goal in front.
Second started much the same as the first with both teams cancelling each other out, however Rawmarsh got back level with a very well finished goal from Ellis Hazlett that was superbly assisted by Harry Emptage.
Rawmarsh started to play good football and create half chances whilst Aston were still a threat from set pieces. However neither team could find a breakthrough and the full time whistle was blown. Rawmarsh and Aston faced a penalty shootout.
Rawmarsh went on the win the penalty shoot out with great penalties from Toby Ponte, Joshua Walker, Lennon Wilson and Jack Sheppard each player confidently dispatched their penalty. But Rawmarsh goalkeeper Kyran Lofthouse was in fine form saving two of the Aston penalties to win the cup for Rawmarsh.
An amazing and well deserved achievement for all the year 11 team. Everyone at Rawmarsh Community School and the wider community of Rawmarsh are very proud of the team. Well done!
