Celebrating Our Sports Leadership Programme

Last year, Rawmarsh Community School formed a Sports Leadership Academy where selected Y9 students attended weekly sessions in their own time led by Mr Inglis, the School Games Organiser for Rawmarsh. The sessions centred around developing leadership skills and knowledge of officiating in sport. Throughout last year, the Leaders successfully ran a KS2 Boccia event for local primary schools and also helped with a Y6 Kurling event held at the school. A special well done to Olivia Martin and Evie Mottershead who received the Sports Leadership Award at Sports Presentation Evening in July.

On Tuesday 17th October, nine of these (now Y10) students helped to lead a primary school Tag Rugby Festival at Rotherham Rugby Club. They coached the children on different rugby skills in the morning and then they refereed matches in the afternoon – and received free Titans match tickets as a thank you! Mr Inglis will miss the Y10 Sports Leaders but will be starting with the new Y9 Sports Leadership cohort straight after half term so watch this space!
