On Saturday, some of our students who play for Rotherham United Whitehill Girls U13s competed in the second round of the Shield against a team in the division above.
Miley helped the team take the lead with an outstanding long-range goal but the other team conceded just before half time. The girls dug deep which resulted in a penalty shootout… The Rotherham United Whitehill Girls won 5-4!
This now means that the girls are through to the Quarter Finals of the Shield – a fantastic achievement as some of the girls have never been involved in tournaments at this level.
Sarah Gunn, Coach at Rotherham United Whitehill U13s, said: “The team spirit was amazing and the girls showed excellent sportsmanship to ensure that the goalkeeper was applauded for her attempts in the shootout.”
Sarah has kindly shared a match report of our students:
Miley – Captain and amazing goal. Stepped up to show composure and secure the win with the final penalty.
Ellie – Player of the Match. Solid performance at the back and stuck to her task 100%.
Sasha – Again, solid performance at the back. Long throws and kicks definitely caused them trouble.
Erin – Wasn’t really tested in the first 20 minutes but pulled off a save in the penalty shootout which gave us the advantage.
Maizie – Youngest one of the bunch. Cleared balls out of defense to stop the pressure on the left hand side.
Jessica – Quick and nimble with the drive and passion to be the first to the ball to try and start the attack.
Well done, girls – a fantastic effort this weekend!
Big thanks to Sarah from Rotherham United Whitehill Girls U13s for sharing this positive news with us.
