Y10 Duke of Edinburgh!

This week saw the last DofE expedition of the year, with 24 Y10 students completing their bronze expedition. They walked 10 miles from school to Hesley Wood at Chapeltown. Their route on day 1 took them through Hoober, Elsecar, Hoyland and Tankersley. On day 2 they returned to school via Hood Hill, Wentworth Village and Wentworth Estate.

There was a definite autumnal feel to day 1, misty, damp and drizzly all day. In the evening we had horrendous rain throughout the night. The students remained positive and cheerful, cooked in a shelter, put their tents up securely and hunkered down for the night. On day 2 we awoke to a cool, crisp, sunny morning, and the students were able to cook their breakfasts outside in the sunshine. The majority managed to remain warm and dry through the night, two students told me, ‘it was great sir, we were as warm and cosy as two bears in a cave.’ The attitude of the whole group was excellent throughout. They worked well together in their teams, and showed good navigational skills. They were a credit to the school.

Well done Y10!
