Y9 Duke of Edinburgh

This week, the Y9 Duke of Edinburgh group completed their Bronze Expedition. To say the weather conditions were challenging is a bit of an understatement!

When setting off from school, we were subjected to constant drizzle and regular downpours which really tested the student’s resolve. Walking to Elsecar, then on to Tankersley before arriving at Hesley Wood campsite, looking absolutely soaked through! The students made excellent progress, and didn’t complain about the weather once. The rain eased for a while allowing the students to pitch their tents and cook, before it returned. Through the night the drumming of rain on the tents made sleeping difficult, however the students were up and about early in the morning, remaining cheerful and positive.

On the second day, it was warm and sunny, being quite the opposite to day one. The only thing slowing the students down was aching legs and lack of sleep. They made their way back through Hood Hill and Wentworth, arriving back at school, exhausted but with a great sense of achievement.

Well done to all involved!
