Today, a group of our Year 9 students at RCS with an interest in languages took part in the second instalment of our live careers webinar series – this time focusing on how language skills can open doors to exciting careers within government and international organisations.
The session featured a range of inspiring guest speakers who shared their personal journeys and career paths. Students heard from diplomats with first-hand experience of living and working in countries such as China and Japan, professionals from the British Council, and representatives from GCHQ. Each speaker offered a unique insight into how languages have shaped their professional lives, from building cross-cultural relationships and representing the UK abroad to working on international communications.
Students asked thoughtful questions and were encouraged to reflect on how language learning might shape their own futures. The session concluded with students independently researching languages they were curious about, including Korean, German, and Mandarin, and exploring the opportunities these languages could lead to.
Sessions like this are designed to inspire students to consider how subjects they enjoy now could translate into rewarding future careers. Well done, Year 9!
