Y7 Sikhism RE Studies!

Year 7 students are currently learning about Sikhism in their RE lessons. Recently, Mrs Allott’s group had the opportunity to taste Karah Parshad in their lesson. This was kindly made by Sarbjot’s father, brought into school and shared with the class. Karah Parshad is a sweet vegetarian pudding, which is offered to all visitors at the gurdwara (the Sikh place of worship). It is given to all who are present at the gurdwara as a sign of their equality and unity.

Offering Karah Parshad also makes sure that no one leaves the gurdwara empty handed.  The recipe was given by Guru Gobind Singh (the tenth human guru), the experience of receiving the sweet Karah Parshad reminds Sikhs of their belief that everything they receive in life is sweet, because they believe it comes from God.

Students enjoyed it’s sweet taste, with many students having second and third helpings! This was a real treat, and a fantastic experience for our students to physically engage with and experience something that we have been studying in our most recent lessons!
