This week marked the final Duke of Edinburgh expedition of the season, with a brilliant group of our Year 9 students successfully completing their Bronze Award.
The team set off for Hesley Wood, where they enjoyed two days of hiking, teamwork, and outdoor adventure. The warm, dry weather made for ideal camping conditions, allowing the students to focus on developing their navigation and expedition skills without battling the elements.
Throughout the journey, all participants demonstrated fantastic map reading and route planning, moving efficiently between checkpoints with no one getting lost – a true testament to their preparation and teamwork. Camping overnight, cooking their own meals, and working as a team really brought out the best in the group. Staff were incredibly proud of their positive attitudes, and the support they showed each other throughout.
This experience is part of the Wickersley Partnership Trust Enrichment Promise, which ensures all students have access to meaningful opportunities beyond the classroom. The DofE programme supports students’ personal growth, encourages independence, and helps raise aspirations by giving them real-world challenges and achievements.
A huge well done to everyone involved – you’ve not only completed your Bronze Expedition, but also taken a big step in building skills that will stay with you for life. We can’t wait to see what you achieve next as you continue your DofE journey!
