European Day of Languages

Today, students at RCS have been celebrating European Day of Languages – an annual event that recognises and appreciates the rich diversity of languages spoken across Europe and around the world.

Students have been taking part in a wide range of engaging activities designed to spark curiosity about language and culture. Year 7 students were challenged to speak to as many teachers as possible in a foreign language, while Year 8 students enjoyed a language-themed treasure hunt. There have even been Swedish taster sessions and an exciting food tasting experience, with dishes from Spain, France, Greece, Norway, and Holland.

The celebrations haven’t stopped there – students have also attended assemblies about the benefits of speaking another language, highlighting how multilingualism opens doors to travel, careers, and global communication.

One of the highlights of the day has been the Spanish Blooket Tournament, hosted by Miss Qaddar. This fast-paced and competitive quiz tested students’ knowledge of Spanish vocabulary, grammar, and culture while encouraging teamwork and quick thinking.

A huge congratulations to everyone who has taken part and shown such enthusiasm for language learning. Special well done to:

  • Kaden – 1st place
  • James and Archi – 2nd place
  • Macie and Niamh – 3rd place

An extra shout-out goes to Abhaypartap, who was the first student to complete a challenge sheet!

It has been brilliant to see so many students engaged, excited, and inspired to learn more about languages and cultures. Events like these are a wonderful way to bring the curriculum to life and celebrate the value of multilingualism across the Trust.
